The "The Nutcracker " Performance / Rehearsal / Costume Fee for Levels 1A, 1B,1C, and 2A is included in tuition when registering. Roles for the levels are announced in September!
Parent participation in " The Nutcracker" and "Spring Showcase."
Parents with children in Levels 1 through 2C must volunteer to help with each performance OR pay an opt-out fee of $100 per session.
Classes and curriculum at MCD are based on a nine-month academic school schedule from August to June, with advancement Summer program classes yearly in June to July. Students can spend anywhere from 1 to 3 years in a level. Dancers in Levels 1-2A typically have one piece of choreography in the Spring Showcase and possibly two parts in " The Nutcracker." Levels 1-2A do not normally participate in the Spring's more advanced and mature ballets.

Pre-Ballet is for ages 3.5 -4.5 years old with little to no previous ballet experience. This class is a structured introduction to movement. Some basic positions and terminology is introduced. Each class begins with a warm-up that includes stretching and strengthening exercises, center exercises, and locomotive exercises. Age-appropriate ballet etiquette is introduced. All children entering Pre Ballet should display readiness for a classroom setting without a parent present and follow the class structure.
Level 1 is for age 5 years old with little to no previous ballet experience. Level 1 begins an introduction to a more formal classical ballet education, class structure and etiquette. Students continue to learn foundational positions and terminology. Class begins with conditioning exercises for flexibility and strength, followed by center barre, center work, and locomotive work. By the end of the School Session in June, the class is introduced to working at the ballet barre.
Level 1A is for ages 6-8 years old with one year to no previous ballet experience. This level contains increased stretching and conditioning skills, increased time learning at the barre and basic center work. Proper basic technique, posture/alignment are strongly emphasized, as well as coordination, musicality and class etiquette. This level only requires one time a week which is ideal for the recreational dancer!
Level 1B is for ages 7-9 years old. This class continues to build the foundation of classical ballet training for returning MCD students from Level 1A. Formal ballet training and technique / discipline of classical ballet are taught in an age-appropriate manner in a nurturing environment.
Level 1C is for ages 7-9 years old, with at least two years previous ballet experience. This class meets twice week. Formal ballet training that includes conditioning, stretching, barre work and center work. This level has a heavy focus on posture and alignment, which helps carry a student through more advanced material in the future.
Dancers can spend anywhere from 1-3 years in each level.

Level 2A is for dancers between ages 9+ who have minimal experience in ballet and is an entry-level class. This is a great class if your child is coming back to ballet after a break, or had little experience as a younger child. This class builds upon the basic principles of classical ballet, students in this level are required to attend stretch and strength class to condition their bodies in a healthy manner for the rigors of ballet.

Level 2B is for ages 9-12 years old, with two-four years of previous ballet experience.This class continues to build upon the basic principles of classical ballet, as well as pre pointe conditioning and Demi pointe training. Students in this level are required to attend stretch and strength class to condition their bodies in a healthy manner for the rigors of ballet.

Level 2C is for ages 9-11 years old, with three-five years of previous ballet experience.This class continues to build upon the basic principles of classical ballet, as well as pre-pointe conditioning and Demi pointe training.

Level 3 is for ages 11+ years old with four +years of previous ballet experience. This class continues to integrate basic foundation with more complexity, advancing to intermediate principles, as well as beginning pointe. Students in this level are required to attend stretch and strength class to condition their bodies in a healthy manner for the rigors of ballet.

Level 4 is for ages 13+ with multiple years of previous ballet experience. This class builds upon intermediate principles, pointe work, and variation classes.

This class is for dancers to attain greater core and overall strength, flexibility, and range of motion.
